What is a Master Plan?
A Master Plan is a guidebook for Mason’s decision-makers based on the community’s vision of the future. The Master Plan provides actionable steps and helps officials decide how to direct city funding, what initiatives to take on, and tangible goals and milestones. This document is required by the State of Michigan per the Municipal Planning Act, Public Act 285 of 1931, as amended. While this plan considers the future of Mason in twenty years, it is reviewed every five years. The City Council adopted the current Master Plan in 2023 and is now working to update the Zoning Ordinance to align with the Master Plan's recommendations.
